** OLD CHARACTER DESIGN was dumped for a more favorable tweaked and better version of the design MLP:FIM - Erebus Character Sheet B (Final Version) by DemonKaizoku, but the height chart is still accurate, as is the "wispy purple form",  but this form may perhaps get more tweaked for the sake of badassery at a later date.**

Bio: Three beings exist in the cosmos. One would say they were gods or higher beings, for their powers seem limitless. Two of these three would one day be known as Princess Celestia and Luna's parents. Their father Chronos was the spirit of time, and their mother Thesis the spirit of life. However out of of these three, we focus on another. This higher being was known as Erebus - the spirit of darkness, whose control over darkness was absolute. Such was his duty, agreed upon by the other two that had their own positions and duty, for space is like a void of darkness, itself. The three spirits of the cosmos spent millenia watching over everything. Sometimes from the comfort of the magical astral plane, and sometimes traversing the great expanses between worlds. Their guidance was limited however, as they could never be amongst the mortals for long, and so, left them to rule themselves.

As the millenia passed, Erebus, having seen the rise and growth of worlds, came to a dark conclusion. Civilizations often looked to their survival through violence. Whoever was the victor had the power. More often or not, those who had power, retained it with further acts of oppression, in its many forms. In other words, it was survival of the fittest. His companions disagreed with his interpretation, as it would unbalance the natural order of light and darkness. Despite this, he began increasing the darkness present in the cosmos. As worlds began to form anew, darker creatures and evil began to rise, with his two fellow spirits set up on him. Erebus defended himself, but despite each had infinite power, he was unable to hold himself against the joined two. Weakened and bound by cosmic forces, born of the same energies he and his companions were, he was held captive. But Chronos, the eldest, foresaw that they could never hold him, and he would continue to influence the cosmos down the dark path he had become determined to proceed down. His arguments for it being the "best route for the development of life" remained strong, no matter what they did to change his mind. In the end, a decision was made. Erebus could not die, but neither could he be left to influence the cosmos. Together, Chronos and his wife Thesis, used their magic to strip Erebus of his power, completely. The resulting release of energy permeated throughout the cosmos, the source leaving a mark on the cosmos (otherwise known as the horsehead nebula), emanating from the space it once occupied. His consciousness had become a wandering mind, without form or capability to effect space around him, nor use power. At least at first.

Erebus wandered for what seemed like centuries. His only pleasure in his incorporeal form were when he learned to touch the minds of creatures, and feed off the darkness within them, or even influence it. His possessions were always short-lived though, as they took far too much energy to sustain; energy he had to feed off any creature he inhabited, which would die, if he remained inside. Eventually, however, he fell upon the ancient kingdoms (that would one day become Equestria), and by inhabiting the mind of a unicorn, he made himself a physical body. The spell in the process would kill the unicorn he had used to perform the magic. He unfortunately befell two side effects. His appearance was not completely like that of the pony species that inhabited the world, and his power was akin to that of a newborn. One more side effect would soon show itself. While the body he had made was ageless, it was still a physical body, and therefore prone to the ravages of his environment. Illness, injury, emotions of a mortal mind. For the first time, he had become concerned, for the weakness was stabbing at his once godlike mind and turning it to bitterness at his fate. Adding to this, he had to continuously keep hidden, due to his size and unusual appearance. He was unable to protect himself from even the weakest of creatures, until he could strengthen himself.

Years passed, as they soon turned into decades, until he believed he had enough power to make use of the ponies, and conquer them. However, after a failure, he retreated to make new plans. This was not in his favor, as eventually, Erebus himself was sealed away in a pocket dimension. This pocket dimension was like a bubble, that he was stuck in. He could see out and hear everything around him, but nothing outside the bubble could see or hear him. To him, objects were solid, so he could not move them (For example, if he stepped on a bug, that bug could not get squashed. It would be like stepping on a stone). He was outside of reality, yet could see it as if he was there. It wasn't until later that he would learn how to do things beyond the bubble of the dimension (communicate with others, such as the pony folk).

Meet my MLP:FIM character design Erebus.

In case you were wondering, the shady purplish form on the far right was his cosmic appearance, while back in the cosmos and magical astral plane with Princess Celestia and Luna's parents. So, that was how he once appeared, as a higher being. Also, I like to think his magic aura glow is the purple color outlining his celestial body. Oh sure, he may not have a unicorn horn, but he still has a pair of ram horns. Plus, unintentionally, I felt the idea was plausible - with light inspiration from the old classic 80's My Little Pony series. The villain they had in a four-part episode name "Grogar" was able to use magic with his horns. :)

If appearances weren't enough to go on, yes he is a villain. In fact, he is the main villain to something I am presently in the progress of, fanfiction and story-wise of my own. Yep, a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfiction; you heard me right. I've had this idea for what seems almost like an age, but there were many things I had to settle and set-up, when it comes to writing development. Ideas, plot, characters, design ideas, etc. Have I gotten anything really written yet? No, not really, it's still in the remainder of the developmental stage, before I start that. But, I'm actually really close to the point of writing, anyway. I just like to know my directions, before I actually begin writing chapters. The title for now will be called "Reign of Darkness". Will it stay the same? Can't say for sure. You know how sometimes you look back on something and change your mind? Well, that happens a lot for us fellow writers. So, the title is subject to change. Possibly.

It's going to be an action and romance genre of story, and before you ask, yes a pairing will present itself at some point. Which? You'll just have to see. ;)
.......
Okay fine. It's going to set up to being a Dislestia (DiscordxCelestia).

"Wait a minute, Kacie! Wasn't Discord sealed up in Season Two? MIND BLOOOOWN!"
Yes, he was, but you don't see that stopping fans; especially when they heard John de Lancie had recently done another recording with the show (Which let's face it, it would be a surprise if it's a new character with that distinct of a voice, so it HAS to be Discord).

Also.. for those who read and aren't lazy and even perhaps love detail (or aren't ones to put the classic tl:dr), in case you were wondering: "This was not in his favor, as eventually, Erebus himself was sealed away in a pocket dimension. This pocket dimension was like a...."

"Is it just me, or is that a little too brief?"
Or, I assume you may think this. If so, yes, I intentionally left it bluntly explained. Why? From that point on, I'd consider the rest of his background as spoilers, when it comes to the story and character details. You'll see at some point anyway. Eventually.
Makes things more interesting that way. :XD:
But in all seriousness, I'm gung-ho about this story, so I don't plan to back from it. Have my job to go to and life? Sure, but I will still be working on it.

I drew the character designs, but had constructive criticism and some help from my boyfriend :iconmattwilson83: When something seemed too out of place, he would point it out or suggest something. He helped with coloring and bringing the pictures to life (since I don't have a tablet. x_x; ). Thanks a bunch! :glomp:

Anyway, I hope you like the design. I worked hard on it, and Matt as always, you were a big help. :D
